Bringing the Boom in Brigham

Hello all you Correlationers!

2020 has been off to a rough start that it has people wondering "jeez, what's next?!?" We've tried to keep things light the last couple weeks but today we have an unsettling correlation for you all.

With the NCAA March Madness competition cancelled, we'll never know who would have won this year or if someone would have had a perfect bracket for once. We always like to root for a slight underdog and BYU seemed to be having a hot season that they could have made a run. Little did we know that the number of wins BYU has during the season* has a 93% correlation with how many earthquakes of magnitude 5.2 and higher from 2008 to 2019! So we can only hope that the season being cut short will help decrease the number of earthquakes this year so the world doesn't completely fall apart!** Maybe BYU should take this into consideration next year!

* We took the liberty to count BYU's wins before their seasons results were altered in 2016 and 2017.

** We recognize that BYU has no control over how many earthquakes there are in the world. But they aren’t terribly far from a major fault line so what do we know.
