Hello Correlationers!
Another week deeper in the year we go! Here at Correlations of the Week© we usually try to find the most topical relevant hot off the grill correlations for us to make sure that you're making sure to stay on top of everything. And if that last sentence makes it seem like we're maybe a little overwhelmed and maybe would greatly appreciate a day where things were calmer, then maybe you're on to something! And maybe it's this reminiscing left over from last week's correlation that got us hooked on days of youth.
Youthful camp fires where scary stories are told is so mid Hollywood cliche-town! (that's what the kids say right?) I remember the classic old story scary story in those situations and I bet you know one too. Mine was always set in the heart of Tornado Alley, where twisters dance like caffeinated ballerinas across the plains. It's always a quiet summary in Oklahoma... maybe a little too quiet. The skies usually brimming with fury and funnel clouds have all gone silent. Tornado sirens gather dust, storm chasers take up birdwatching, cats and dogs start living together, I mean really crazy stuff. Then you see something in the shadows. It seems like a person 6'4", maybe 210 pounds, a seemingly normal guy but then as the shadow shifts you realize it's Dale Murphy!
That's right! The two time MVP of the MLB, Silver Slugger for four straight years, and the gold glove award for five straight years. He really exploded in the 80s, tearing down opponents like the Raquel Welch poster in Andy Dufresne's Shawshank Cell. But what's he doing here? That's right! The correlation between Dale Muphy's On-Base plus Slugging percentage and the number of tornadoes in Oklahoma in June is -88% correlated from 1984-1993!
After Dale won his second MVP, it sent a super sonic wave into the universe that it registered as a level 5 Murphquake! Unfortunately Dale's career had to come to an end at some point but we thank him for his service! Maybe in a couple years they'll do a remake of Field of Dreams but set in Oklahoma and then they summon Dale! We definitely know that Dale was the inspiration to the original Twister. What a legend.
