The Dutch Connection

Hello all you Correlationers!!

We've decided to bring you back to back editions of correlation of the week in solidarity of the trying times we're in. It's easy to get sucked into the sad news cycle so we hope to provide a safe space where you may have a 1 minute reprieve and possibly even a sensible chuckle if we're lucky. If you're like us, you've been finding yourself thinking of being able to get away. Whether that be to a local restaurant you've been craving or to hop on a plane to Amsterdam to have a nice bike ride through the canals, see the colorful windmills, and smell fresh tulips all to end at a nice pub to eat cheese, drink beer, and finish it off with a tasty stroopwafel. There's definitely too much time to get lost in fantasy land but as true correlationers know, there's nothing too crazy to be linked by a correlation! So that's right, the correlation between the number of passengers flying through ATL airport and the Netherlands National Football Team's FIFA ranking is 79% correlated from 2005-2017.

There are many more connections to this correlation that meet the eye. The Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is the busiest international route from ATL and the ATL United imported Frank de Boer Ajax to name a few. This relationship shows that as ATL has been growing in passengers, the Dutch team has been slipping from their golden years. ATL needs to be a little more giving in this relationship.

Please subscribe for notifications when new volumes are posted! If you have a suggestion or feedback, we’d love to hear it! As always, if you know anyone else that would like to be a new correlationer, please let us know!
